Connor & Ellie’s Backyard Circus 4th Birthday Party

Yesterday we had a circus birthday for Connor and his cousin Ellie. They both turned 4 within a day of each other and they’ve always shared a special bond. The kids wanted to do a backyard circus party so that’s what we did! Big shout out to my sister-in-law Rebecca & mother-in-law Sherry for making all the costumes! Everything turned out so good and I think all the kids had fun participating in the circus. We had perfect weather yesterday too….I was actually sweating! I can’t believe these two are already 4 years old. My baby is growing up too fast!

Most of this post is going to be pictures of the party. Hope you enjoy Connor & Ellie’s backyard circus 🙂

Five on Friday

Happy Friday everyone! It’s about time!!! I am so excited for the weekend. We are going to have sunny skies and the circus birthday party is HAPPENING. I’m also shooting a wedding on Saturday evening & I’m so excited about it 🙂

1.  I shared this on Instagram.  When my sister was in town visiting she told me about Teez w/Eez.  She got hers from a salon and I got mine from Amazon.  It works amazing!!!

3.  My BFF Ellen is in Dallas for vacation this week.  We’ve been friends since middle school and I love her to pieces.  I’m on a mission to get her to move here.  She loves DFW, now all we have to do is find her a job!  Anyone hiring for someone with management experience and a degree in fashion merchandising???  Let me know!  We went to California Pizza Kitchen, did a little shopping, and then ended the night at Sprinkles for ice cream sundaes.  They are to die for….SO GOOD!

4.  My friend Heather sent me some Jamberry nails to try.  I’ve heard of them, but I’ve never tried them before.  They come in so many cool colors and designs.

5. Here is how I styled my Jamberry nails.  LOVE.  They were super easy to apply and I can tell they’ll last for a while.  For more info on how to order these beauties contact Heather for more information.

HAPPY WEEKEND!!!

Finish This Link Up: Week 12

I know it’s a little weird but

I have a family talent handed down from generation to generation.  I can SQUEAK!!!!  It’s just a funny thing my Dad taught me and he can even do entire songs.  Just press your lips together and make a funny squeaky noise.

When stopped at a stoplight, I

Check my phone.  But I NEVER take my selfies while stopped or driving.  I also just jam and sing to music.  Most of the time I’m in a rush and in my head thinking “GO GO GO!”  Also, I HATE that song #Selfie….OMG I am so over it.  If I hear it one more time on the radio I may barf.  Ugh.

My guilty pleasure is

Chocolate. Coffee.  Need I say more?  I think those to are obvious if you read this blog.  Right now I would give my right arm for a Kinder Egg.  If you’ve never heard of them….Google it!

My favorite way to unwind

Sleep in.  Get a professional massage (by that meaning one I don’t have to beg for where my husband uses one hand to rub my back)  I also like to watch reality TV.  Right now I’m liking Rehab Addict on HGTV.

Also don’t forget about my Easter photo special!!!

Social Media & Self Validation

20140325_105926

So…there comes a time after blogging for many years you question why you’re doing it?  Why did I start?  I’m not the best writer, I’m not the most exciting person ever, I don’t have a perfect sense of fashion, or a daily Pinterest worthy post.

Why did I start blogging?  Well, I started because I like to write.  Writing down my thoughts is easier than actually saying them.  My sister and I used to blog together when I lived in Arkansas and we had a lot of fun with it.  This was around 7-8 years ago when NOBODY was blogging and it was not for money or free stuff.  It was for fun.

I miss that time.  When blogging was purely for fun.  It was somewhat quiet and you genuinely met people who became real life friends.  Some of them I still have today and some have gone on to lead their lives out of the Internet limelight.  I used to comment on every single blog I read.  I don’t do that anymore….I should but I’m lazy.  After being at work all day in front of a computer the last thing I want to do is get back on at home.  I read them….but what happened to caring and commenting?  I feel guilty sometimes, but people’s lives get busy and that doesn’t mean I don’t care.

In that regard I’m thankful for Instagram.  I’m not on Twitter so much.  I love Instagram because I’m such a visual person and you can converse and follow people and chit chat back and forth on the spot.

Terence and I were talking the other day about how social media has changed the way we communicate.  It changes the way we validate ourselves.  The more “likes” or “comments” we get the worthier we feel about what we are doing.  What happened to telling those close few friends in real life about the exciting things going on in life?  I’ve gotten to where I’ll immediately tell social media things before I’ll tell my closest friends.  That pisses me off.  Why is that so important???  Why do I feel like I need self-affirmation from people I do like, mind you, but I don’t really know?

I showcase my life for all to see.  But you don’t really see ALL of it.  You see the good things, the pretty parts, the things I feel worthy of sharing with you.  Not everything is neat and tidy.  There’s a lot of ugly in life too and I admire those who feel free to share that.  People who are honest about themselves and don’t hide behind a computer screen.  Sometimes I feel like I’m the one hiding.

I’m so thankful for the friendships blogging has brought me.  I have writer’s block a lot.  Sometimes I’m not in the mood to share anything.  I need to take a step back a re-evaluate myself.  At the end of the day I blog for me.  I blog to stay in touch with my family who all live out-of-state.  I blog to share ideas and things I love.  I blog to make a little extra money (judge if you want) but I’m not rich and I know some folks don’t like to read too many reviews.  I try to balance it out, but I would never judge anyone trying to monetize their blog.

Be happy for those around you.  Support each other & don’t envy.  Blog for YOU.  Blog because you want to, not for someone else or because you need to feel worthy.  You are worth it.  You are worth writing, reading, sharing, and being supported by those who love to blog just like you!

You never know when that one post can make a difference in someone’s life.  The words you say mean something.  They could be the difference between a new mom choosing to give up her child, by sharing God’s word you just might lead another soul to Heaven, your words may change a person’s path forever.

In this world we’re living in it’s so easy to lose your way.  To get sucked into the social media whirlwind.  You CAN be a part of this….just don’t let anyone else’s opinion of you make you feel less or not worthy.  I guarantee someone out there enjoys reading about you and does think your WORTH IT.

Weekend Wrap Up & Twinkie Time!

Well, this weekend went a little different than planned.  Connor and Ellie’s 4th birthday party was supposed to happen, but due to forcasted rain (that never happened) and my sister in law’s impending labor (which also never happened) we rescheduled for next Sunday.  My sister and her fiancé Vinny came to visit with cousin Jarrett.  Connor and Jarrett just adore each other.  We had a nice visit and got to catch up.  Bonnie’s getting married in June and I had the pleasure of taking some engagement photos of them too 🙂

We did some retail therapy at the mall and went to QT for iced coffees and scratch offs.  That’s just something we always do when she comes to town.  QT is a gas station that has a heavenly beverage bar.  We didn’t win on our scratch offs…poo poo 🙁  But we did have a good time!  Ate good Mexican food, watched movies, and just caught up on life.  It’s hard living away from home, but that just means you cherish the time you have with family a whole lot more.10151778_10153919957160125_679943871_n

Our boys adore each other.  They love, then they fight, tattle, and whine….but at the end of the day they are BFF.  They are 2 months apart and my Mom sent them matching shirts for spring so we dressed them alike.

A Splash of Fun with MilkSplash + Target Gift Card Giveaway!

This is a sponsored review written by me on behalf of MilkSplash. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

D7K_5971

I love having fun with food.  After school Connor usually has a snack before dinner.  I want him to have something that’s good for him, but something that I know he’s going to enjoy as well.  We tried some samples of a new product called MilkSplash the other day and OMG soooooooooo good!  I’ve always been a fan of flavored milk and Connor loves milk too.  It’s an excellent source of protein and calcium for kiddos.

We tried the strawberry and banana flavors after school yesterday.  MilkSplash comes in convenient squirt bottles that are so easy to use & Connor did it all by himself!  The milk flavor was great and didn’t taste like “fake fruit” like some products we’ve tried in the past.  It’s a very refreshing way to add flavor to your milk.

Let me tell you a little more about MilkSplash:

MilkSplash is an innovative new milk flavoring that is perfect for busy parents who want their kids to drink more milk. Although this product contains artificial sweeteners, it has zero calories and it allows kids to enjoy milk on their own terms. MilkSplash is also working on an all natural version but for now MilkSplash will be on shelves in a Target near you March 24th and at Walmart in mid-April.

MilkSplash also comes in a chocolate flavor called “Cocoa Loco” and if you read this blog you KNOW I’m going to try that one out 🙂D7K_5946

Each bottle of MilkSplash makes 24 servings.  That’s a lot!  This would be a great item to take on trips and easy to store because it takes up little space.  I was also thinking MilkSplash would be AMAZING in milkshakes….can you imagine?  That’s another recipe I’m going to try this summer.

I did it all by myself & it was SO good!
