School Halloween Treats

I always like getting crafty when it comes to Connor’s school holidays.  This was the easiest treat….

Just get a bag of Sixlets at your local grocery store.  You can use the free spider printable below.  (Just click on it to make it bigger, then right click and save to your desktop)

We have the cutest little spiders 🙂

Just glue or tape to the back of the spider’s face.  I used cardstock so the paper was a bit heavier.  Have fun and happy Halloweeeeeeeen!spider-2

I Stink at Chalk Art…But Wait a Minute!

This is what I aspire to do…

But it usually ends up looking like something a kindergartener would do.  I found these great stencils and I’m ordering some to see how that works.  I think you just rub the chalk over them and voila!

I’ll let y’all know what I choose!  What is your favorite Christmas saying or quote?

Life Update…Fa La La La FALL!

I’m already seeing the glimmer of Christmas bulbs in Target people!  You know if Target has it then it must be true….I mean you can’t trust Hobby Lobby or Michaels because it’s basically Christmas 24 hours a day/ 365 at those joints.

Like seriously I’m so anxious to decorate this house because I have more Christmas decorations that I actually have regular decorations so it sort of makes my house look shall we say….”decorated“???

This week begins my very favorite Christmas shopping event in DFW Christmas in Cowtown 🙂

Check out our past shopping adventures HERE.

Update on the house…well, we had to buy a pool pump and my washing machine broke along with a thousand other things that need to get done, but that’s okay we have a lifetime right?  I’m not going to sell a kidney just yet.

Check out our entry way.  Gone is the tuscan Olive Garden feel and welcome sleek and modern clean walls and lighting from Savoy House.

At least all the messy stuff is over and we can relax a bit.  I’ve been getting into Snapchat lately: Username: thejavamama

Connor has been having a lot of fun playing soccer again.  We are about to start boy scouts too!

I did the prettiest engagement shoot for my friend Kelly’s daughter.  The Dallas Arboretum is so gorgeous this time of year and they have pumpkins EVERYWHERE!

Aren’t they the cutest???

Well, that’s about it besides the daily routine of school and work.  I’m loving the new show “This is Us”.  If you haven’t watched it….DO IT.  My parents are coming in for a visit in the next couple of weeks and I can’t wait!  For the daily you can find me on Instagram 🙂

Home Remodeling…and other Stuff

So, let’s play catch up shall we?  A lot has been going on and I want to remember these things when I’m an old gray mare….so I shall blog about them 🙂

We closed on our house!!!  Whoop!  Whoop!  It only took almost a year and a half, but it was worth the wait 🙂  The market here in DFW is crazy, so we feel like we won the house jackpot and the best part is Connor still gets to stay at his wonderful schools.

We found a new ice cream place that freezes the ice cream on a hibachi type slab and rolls them up.  It was fun to watch and Connor loved it!14206046_856553344445349_8222023181738132229_o

This was one of the funniest things I read all week.  It’s sad but true, our generation has lost all sense of conversationalism.  Something I truly enjoy, but am also guilty of being on my phone.  If I’m alone, almost always on my phone…it’s a serious crutch.raqj636g9e69

We’ve got a bunch of remodeling going on at the new house and we are super excited to get moved in.  It will be fun to share all the details with everyone as we go through the design process.

Here’s an example of what we are trying to do right now:

LIVING ROOM

And the chaos that ensues:

The entry way already looks a ton better with the faux brick gone.  We are getting all new lighting from Savoy House.  Lighting makes SUCH a big difference!  I can’t wait to show you all the after photos!

Connor had his first swim in the new pool.  I posted some videos and things as we go through the remodel process on Facebook and Instagram if you want to follow!

All the wood will be painted white.

The dining room will be a very pretty dark grey from floor to ceiling.  The color we chose is called “Peppercorn” from Sherwin Williams.  We are changing out all the lighting to fit more to our liking.  The former homeowners had a more “Tuscan” style.DSC_5485

Anyway, so that’s a bit of what has been going on.  We are so thankful that God has provided us with the perfect home after a long year of searching!  So so thankful.  Connor boy started soccer again and seems to be enjoying the first grade.  Except he brought home a book about snakes this week and I can hardly stand to open it!  Yuck!

I’ll be attending the Megaphone conference next week and I’ll be sure to document all that fun too!  I can’t wait to hang out with all my Arkansas peeps and one of my favorite bloggy friends Michelle 🙂  Yippee!

So, yeah a lot going on and some days I feel like this…but you know what it’s FALL and I’m ready to scarf it up and throw on some boots!

Hang in there…the best is yet to come!

The Craziness that is the DFW Housing Market

Well…here we go again.

ZILLOW

I shared with friends and family on Facebook last week that we had finally found a home.  Well, after much thought, an inspection, and looking the house over a couple more times it just didn’t feel like our “home“.  We decided it wasn’t for us and backed out of the offer.  When we sold our house last May in two days I think we thought it would be a piece of cake to jump into another house.

Easier said than done.  The DFW housing market is a legit war zone right now.  You have to fight for what you want, then make a crazy offer, then once it’s accepted take the steps that most buyers would take BEFORE putting in an offer.  To say we’ve felt pressured or a little on edge would be an understatement.  As much as I truly want a house I don’t want to settle….and that is exactly what I feel like we have to were doing.

I know we are looking in a specific area.  One where homes start at $500K and go into the millions.  Our budget is a fraction of that.  It sucks that you have to be a millionaire to get into a good school district.  The whole purpose of our move was to have more family time together and cut Terence’s hour commute in half.  We have our reasons for sticking to our area and our gut.  We’ve built a life here and Connor has made friends…we’d like to stay more than anything.

How many families are that wealthy to afford neighborhoods full of million dollar homes?  I often find myself wondering that?  Did they inherit money, did they win Powerball, do they have a magic genie I don’t know about?  I mean we make a good living by anyone’s standards.  Are we looking in the wrong area?  Are we being too picky?  I know not everyone lives in this area…but it wasn’t always like this.  Should we move to the sticks and commute for hours and just suffer through it for a cheaper home….maybe?  When a home comes up in our budget it’s gone the same day or a few days after…piranhas.

Also, homes we’ve been bidding on appraised for thousands if not a hundred thousand LESS two or three years ago!!!  How is the market that cray cray right now???  When did the housing bubble blow up this big?  Will it pop again and we’ll be screwed?  Is it just in DFW?

UGH.

Our real estate agent has been a Godsend really and shown us so many properties.  We are incredibly grateful that she is sticking with us through this crazy time.  My ultimate goal is to have a home by Christmas.  Everyone that knows me knows how much I love Christmas and to decorate and all that jazz.

I don’t want to seem ungrateful or sound like I’m not thankful for what we have…because I am in so grateful.  I know not everyone owns a home.  We are all happy and healthy and have a roof over our heads.  There is absolutely nothing to be sad about.  I guess I’m just frustrated and writing is my way to vent.  I am by no means a good writer or even a great writer…but it feels good to get it out.

Anyone else experiencing this crazy market and navigating through the rough waters right now?  If so what are your thoughts?

Home is where the HEART is.  That I do know.

God has a reason for everything and a plan…that I know too.

Thanks for listening. xo Becky

Foot In Mouth Syndrome

When I went home a few weeks ago to Arkansas I was out shopping with my Mom and our friend. I went to the pajama section and was promptly greeted by a sales lady who began to tell me how they just got a new shipment of maternity wear in and how great “this” and “that” would look on me.  She even held up a few tops and said how cute they would look.  I then realized the pajama section was right next to the maternity section…

UGH!

Yeah I wanted to run for the hills!  I am not freaking pregnant.  *SLAP!* I wear blousy shirts to cover my “food baby” and yes I know I have a few to lose, but dang.  That sucks and now I want to go throw up.

I know I constantly am putting my foot in my mouth.  For goodness sakes my mind is a land of run-on sentences and exclamation points!!!  Anyway, such is life.

Dear God give me the right things to say and the right time to say them.  Amen.

We’ve been super busy.  Connor started summer school/camp or whatever you want to call it.  We have put in countless offers on more homes…it’s stressful and yeah I just don’t want to talk about it.  I’ve been working and doing a lot of fun blogger programs over the summer- which I mostly post about over on my INSTAGRAM.  Let’s be friends!

I had a fun photoshoot with my BFF Sarah over at Wake Me Up Goods the other day!  Who doesn’t love glitter?  And you are NEVER too old for a tutu 🙂  Shown here is my all time favorite “Choose Your Brew” t-shirt.

It finally quit raining here in Texas.  There is something about rain that makes me want to burn a thousand candles and read books.  Am I right?

Have y’all tried Diamond Candles?  My sister and I are sort of addicted to them.  Her husband even proposed to her with a Diamond Candle 🙂  I have never gotten a diamond though….maybe one day!  It’s fun and they candles smell lovely.

The apartment by my lil artist Connor:

Pretty darn good if I do say so myself.

AND- Happy Father’s Day to the best Daddy a daughter could have and a man who would never stick his foot in his mouth.  He calls me just to tell me how pretty, smart, and amazing I am all the time for no reason at all and that means more to me than anything in the world.  I love you Daddy, you are truly the BEST man ever.  Thank you for not dropping me and Bon on a street corner and leaving us there, even though there were several times you should have.  We weren’t always the best, but you loved us through it all.

Anyway….y’all I hope to be more “with it” on my little corner of the Internets & I love you bunches!

Terence and I are trying to figure out where to go this summer on an affordable vacay?  Any suggestions?

Sprucing up the Apartment with Fathead! #PeelStickDone

This post is sponsored by Fathead, but my love for their wall decals is all my own!

I know I’ve talked about our living situation on the blog and things have just been pure CRAZINESS!  We signed a 6 month lease at our apartment over a year ago thinking we would find a house in no time…and over 15 home offers later….nothing.

We are trying to keep our heads up and know that God is in control and just be patient.  We’ve met so many new friends in our apartment complex, and honestly it has been a lot of fun!  People we would have never crossed paths with have become a big part of our lives due to us moving.  AND it’s been a blessing!

The one thing I miss about having a home is being able to personalize things and make them your own.  We recently spruced up Connor’s room with some starbursts from Fathead.  They are so cute and he loves them!  They brighten up the space, and best of all they come right off!

His room is so much more kid friendly and these starbursts from Fathead give it a whimsical touch.

In the dining/living room area I added this Fathead monogram to personalize the space.  I just love it!  It’s my favorite color green too 🙂
