Dachau Concentration Camp

Okay…I’m finally beginning to gather my thoughts and write about our Germany leg of the trip.  We had a great trip in England, but I was super eager to finally visit Germany.  One reason specifically is because my sister and I were born there.  We shall get to that…we did visit where we lived and even found the apartment my parents had while my Dad was in the Army.

We took an Easy Jet from England to Munich, Germany.  I highly recommend this if you are jet setting anywhere in Europe and want to travel between countries.  It’s fast, easy, and inexpensive.  We flew directly into Munich on my 37th birthday.  I have always wanted to visit a concentration camp, I am a huge history person, and it was such a humbling experience.

I’ll recap a bunch of it below and in pictures, but nothing is like seeing it in person.

My little traveler.  We rented a car to drive through Germany which was great!  Terence got to drive on the Autobahn and I was too chicken to try it! Lol!

At one point Terence did get up over 100 mph just to do it…so I took a picture and then promptly told him to slow down and glad he got his “Fast and the Furious” moment out of his system.

We were so hungry when we landed and I literally Googled “Good places to eat in Munich” and we went to the nearest restaurant that showed up.  At first it looked like a dive, but it was next to the most beautiful lake with the clearest blue water.  The truffle risotto was the best I’ve ever had and I still have dreams about it…ha ha!

Just goes to show you some of the best experiences are the unplanned ones!

37th Birthday…I still can’t believe I was over a month pregnant in these photos and didn’t even know it.  I’ll always think that this was a special trip with the FOUR of us 🙂

No ice in Europe…oh how I love my ice!

My lunch, truffle risotto.

The most gorgeous lake

After lunch we headed to Dachau.  The whole experience was very humbling.  I can’t believe the horrific things that happened there…so many lives lost.  They will never be forgotten and neither will their stories.

Follow along below:

*Sensitive content*  We let Connor go into a few areas of the camp, but not the entire thing.  I would probably wait until they are 12 or older to view the whole thing.

Each row of rocks is where a building used to be.  Soooo many people were here it’s just unfathomable.

You can see just how many buildings in the picture here

Beds upon beds stacked on top of each other.

This sculpture was amazing.  At first I had to give it several looks because it’s so intricate…but it just speaks so many languages with just a sculpture.

The whole experience is one I’ll never forget.  I’m so glad we went and got to remember and reflect on these people’s lives.  Never forget.

Psalm 1:1-6 ESV

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; …
