Anxiety & Depression

Most of you know that I suffer from anxiety…and sometimes depression. It’s something that has affected my life since around the age of 16. Some days are easier than other. I’m sure my coffee habit doesn’t help the anxiety part either :/ I love coffee, but sometimes if I’m feeling extra anxious or tense I’ll get a decaf or a smaller beverage.

I think a lot of people who suffer from anxiety and depression are living day to day. I wouldn’t say I’m one of those people. I don’t really suffer from the depression part at all….but anxiety and tension. A LOT. A lot of it is hereditary. It runs in my family and it’s something a lot of my family members suffer from as well.

I’ve been to counseling for years. I don’t go to counseling anymore, but I do still take medication to help manage my anxiety issues. It’s something that has helped me tremendously. What really makes me mad is when people don’t understand what you are going through and try to offer up their own resolve. Yes, diet and exercise DO help…..but this is something I can’t explain and I don’t know why I’m like this…it’s almost like a disease. I do the best I can to manage and try to relax, but some days I just get so worked up its hard.

I think my anxiety has a lot to do with my decision on not having another child. I suffered from MAJOR postpartum depression after Connor was born. I thought the floor was going to fall out from under me. What do I do with this baby…this thing in my life now who has taken over my time, energy, entire being! I love my son, don’t get me wrong. The beginning was so rough and I’m afraid to go through that again. Also, day to day just having one 2 year old right now is good with me! Coming from someone who never thought she could have children in the first place…..I am so beyond happy with my sweet Connor boy. And I am fulfilled and happy with that. I don’t want to be judged for my decision. It’s personal and it’s not selfish, I’m doing what’s best for Connor, Terence, & me. I can be a better Mom and wife this way. Unless things change and God has other plans…..we are good.

Today is going to be a good day. I am so blessed. Pushing all my fears and anxiety today….all is well.
I’m going to be 31 next week. YIKES. Gulp. I am old.

I’m so thankful for the blogging friendships I’ve made. The comments from lovely friends and readers. I feel not so alone in the world. Ya’ll are the best! Thanks for always encouraging me and talking

Chalkboard Fun

Well, I told ya’ll I was wanting to turn an old mirror that has been sitting in our closet for a few years into a chalkboard for Connor.  It worked out great and I think he’ll like playing with this and we can also use it to learn letters, shapes, and numbers!

Here is what the mirror looked like before:

I used Martha Stewart chalkboard paint seen here:

The paint went on sort of gloppy….I kind of wish I went with the spray on chalkboard paint instead.  Has anyone used that?  I’ve also heard if you prime the bottom layer you’re painting with black paint you don’t have to brush on as many coats.  It’s not perfect by any means….but I think it turned out good!

As you can see we had a lot of fun with our new chalkboard 🙂

Terence was not too crazy about the color, but I think this is one of those things where you can be daring and use a color you normally wouldn’t!  So I went for something bright and bold!

Weekend Wrap-Up

We had a pretty chill weekend.  Relaxed with friends, went hiking, and I worked on my chalkboard project!  I’m not so sure how it’s going to come out, right now it’s at home drying.  I painted chalkboard paint on top of a mirror and I hope it sticks?  Should I have primed it first?
 Playing with trains

 Saw buffalo and deer

Took a dip in the lake
Watching Chuggington and getting a free birthday coffee on my way to work this morning! Score!
 How was your weekend?
I finished my Fifty Shades books.  I am so sadz.
I need something new to read…..suggestions???

High Five For Friday!

It’s finally Friday.
Amen. Amen. & Amen.
Last night after work our office got together at Alice’s house. Her husband used to work in our office…but died suddenly last year 🙁  She is the nicest person and she seemed to be doing really well!
These are some of the fab ladies I work with and some spouses of co-workers as well.

Alice has an AMAZING house.  She let us all walk around and tour it.  One of my favorite things was this GIANT pencil in the corner.  Their style is so eclectic and modern, everything flowed so nicely together.

Thoughts:  I have this mirror that has been sitting in a closet for a couple years now.  I wanted to turn it into a chalkboard for Connor.  Can you spray paint on top of a mirror?  What color should we paint the frame?

We got our Citrus Lane box in yesterday as well.  This month’s theme was “fun in the sun”.  I am loving getting our box of goodies every month and so is Connor boy.

Hope ya’ll have a great summer weekend!

Knot Genie

To say that my kid has a fro would be and understatement.  His curls are precious, but so hard to brush and tame.  He screams every time I try and comb his hair because it gets so tangled!  It just breaks my heart.

Enter my new BFF the Knot Genie…..

This little brush works WONDERS I tell ya! WONDERS.  In a few easy strokes his hair is brushed and he doesn’t even cry!  I love this so I wanted to share it with all of you!  If you have a curly, tangle-headed, afro baby then you must try this brush.

We are all happy now with brushed hair!!! 🙂
