Being a Mom through the Storms #SickJustGotReal #AMomCanDream

The years just keep on passing by so quickly!  I just shared how Connor boy turned 6 years old.  It seems like yesterday he was an itty bitty baby and now he’s in school.  I’ve heard once they get in school time passes even quicker.

I remember those sleepless nights & Doctor visits so well 🙂

As a first time Mom there are so many things that run through your brain.  “Am I doing this right?” “What do I do with this little human I just brought home from the hospital?”

And the WORST feeling is when your baby gets sick.

I remember one night so vividly.  Connor was an infant and he had a super high fever and it wasn’t breaking.  I was so nervous and it was late at night.  Terence and I were pacing the house trying to figure out what to do.  We had given him medicine and a bath and tried to lower the fever…nothing was happening.  I called 911 because I was so scared and didn’t know what to do.

The lady on the phone began to yell at me and tell me “What kind of Mother lets her son get a fever that high?”  “You need to go to the ER” and she continued to tell me horrible things and judging me for something that I just wanted help with.  I felt helpless and angry after that phone call.  I just started to cry and pray that everything would be okay.

Who was she to judge me?  I was a scared first time Mom and all she did was scold me!

Obviously everything worked out, but the situation could have been so much easier if the lady would have just shown a little bit of patience with me.

  1. Oh my gosh – that lady! I would’ve been freaked out too! The sickest I’ve ever been is food poisoning and I hope to never experience that again in my life!

  2. When my son was very little he got very sick and we took him into the emergency room and they sent us home. And the next we had to go back as Charlie got worse. And they thought about Care Fighting us to another hospital but there wasn’t room at it. And while waiting to find out what to do we found out a little girl with the same virus as Charlie died the day before. I was so scared. But God took care of Charlie and the best doctors and nurses. And now Charlie is 8. And I thank God for him everyday.

  3. We were driving home and my grandson wasn’t feeling well. He ended up throwing up all over in the car. I felt so bad for him.

  4. Worst sick story is when my daughter projectile pooped on me when changing a diaper. I never did figure out how so much poop could come out of one little body. I was covered in it, she was and so was the bed I was changing her on. It was horrid!

  5. my husband had outpatient surgery years ago for his leg. when he got home, I was the only one available to care for him. bad thing was…I had the flu! he was vomiting from the drugs they gave him during surgery and I had to clean it up. while I was sick with the flu! will never forget it.

  6. My worst time being sick was when my son and I both got the stomach bug. We would pretty much take turns throwing up throughout the day/night. I was soo exhausted. I tried to teach him how to go to the toilet when he felt sick, but he couldn’t get the hang of it.

  7. I got so sick one time, I was throwing up for almost 2 days straight. It was the worst! After that, I was completely fine. Weird!

  8. My worst sick story was everyone in the family was down during flu season a few years back, we had to ask my parents to help with meals and some errands.

  9. No kids yet, so my sick story is about my dog. A little miniature dachshund. He was so sick that he was throwing up and had diarrhea all night. We felt so sorry for him. My husband snuggled with him on the couch once he seemed over it and they both fell asleep.

  10. My sick got real moment happened about 5-6 months ago, my son has never really been too sick in his 8 years of life, he has a pretty strong immune system but he did catch that nasty stomach flu bug and it was an all night battle where my husband and I both took turns running him to the bathroom to clean up his projectile vomit and hold his head while the other stripped the bed and put fresh sheets. It was horrible and just as he was starting to feel better my husband and I both got just as sick as he was at the same time…yuck!

  11. Our first Christmas as parents was spent in the ER. Our little man was 9 months old and had yet another ear infection. He was lethargic and had a really high temp. He was the first grandchild on both sides and our families acted like we were being mean by depriving them of him on Christmas. It was awful. We ate cardboard sandwiches from 7-11 for Christmas dinner. 🙁 Thankfully he recovered, and eventually had tubes put in.

  12. My worst sick stories were when my kids had the flu: so messy, and they just felt so sick and it is not easy to make them feel less nauseous.
