  2. Well, at seven months, she doesn’t have one yet, but we’ve already started the conversation of when. I have a feeling it will be before she goes to college, which is when I got my first cell phone. 🙂

  3. our baby is still cooking (due in february!) but we’ve already said they shouldn’t need one until they are left alone somewhere (the mall with friends, etc.)

  24. They are both to young to have one yet (8 & 4) but I am thinking a basic phone when the start jr high so I can find them at pick up time might be good 🙂

  29. I think I was 14; and I held on to my phone every single minute calling and texting. Of course my parents were not happy about the phone bill. We didn’t have any smartphones or none of that fancy stuff, but it was definitely good ol’ times I want to go back to. 🙂

  48. My older son received his first phone at age 12. The younger son received his first phone at age 9. I can’t imagine them NOT having cell phones!

  70. My children are all adults and cell phones weren’t even around for the public when they were teens. Now they all have one and most of their children do too.
    I guess we were part of the dark ages lol

  87. they haven’t yet . . . I used to say it was appropriate only when they began to drive, but now I’m thinking middle school is appropriate. They start to have lives then and need to keep contact with their parents.

  94. I don’t have kids, so can’t really answer this question. When I was a kids in the 1970s/80s, we didn’t have cell phones! LOL I can say that if I had kids, I would not allow them to have a phone of their own until middle school at the earliest.
