Hello Fellow Bloggers!
As with all things new, the first time can bring on a flood of emotions which you never knew you had. Emotions such as fear, awkwardness, excitement, confidence, sadness, love, and on and on the list could go. I, for one, know that while I type these very lines, a sense of awe falls over me.
“Why?” you ask.
Well, this is my very first time to write a post! I have no idea how y’all do this every day. I’ve sat here for almost 10 minutes now, writing a few words, holding down the delete key, writing something else, and then slamming the delete key again. And so, as I’ve already stated, a sense of awe has fallen over me. I’m amazed at how everyone who has their own blog manages to think of something to say. Quite frankly, I’m envious.
Countless days I’ve watched Becky stare at this very screen and hammer something out in a matter of minutes. Here I am, staring at that same cursor (blink…blink…blink), looking at the clock (15 minutes, now), and wondering how I’ve only managed to type three paragraphs. What’s the old saying — Practice makes perfect? I don’t think so, at least, not for me. I think I’ll use “practice makes better”. Oh well, next time I’ll be better at this. In fact, I’ll shoot for 3 paragraphs in 10 minutes!
“Next time?” you ask.
Yes! My reason for posting today is so that when our son is born, I’ll be able to post something to keep all you bloggy buddies updated on the birth and Becky’s status. As many of you know, this blog was originally started to keep Becky’s family updated on her life (since I moved her away from Arkansas to Texas). Slowly, she began meeting each of you and you became a semi-support group as she coped with being away from her family for the first time in her life. It’s amazed me that over the past 4 years, how many friends she’s made on here.
I have to be honest. When this whole blog thing started, I didn’t understand her reasons for spending so much time talking with people she didn’t even know. I wondered how this could ever amount to anything and I quickly dismissed it as a waste of time. However, as the months went by, I found myself reading her daily posts and the comments that followed. I began to find her blog interesting. I began to get to know many of you through your comments you’d leave. And, I began to finally understand that these friends, this semi-support group, had turned to “family”. This blog started with the intentions of updating family, and in the same spirit, that’s exactly what it does it does today! Again, I’m awed.
So, in keeping with the spirit of this blog (and post), I want to ask question. What was your very first post about? Can you remember how you felt while writing it? What have you learned since then that has helped in your daily posting?
Hopefully, this wasn’t too boring for all you “followers” out there and I look forward to updating you when the time comes. Thank you for your support, prayers, and encouragement. I hope one day we can return the many blessings y’all have given us. After all, that’s what “family” is for.
Many blessings to you all,
–Terence
