House Hunting

We met our real estate agent last night to look at this house. It is more than we wanted to spend, but because it’s brand new the builders are really trying to sell it. It’s already finished out and we would have to close in a month! Ahhh!!! There is also the option to build. I’m so torn as to what to do, but we both fell in love with this house. I don’t want to be house poor though 🙁 So many decisions! I mean it’s either we get a nicer house and take that next step with the low low interest rates right now and the 8K tax credit, or a starter home that we aren’t completely in love with….what would you do???? It’s over 2300 square feet, I mean we don’t have the furniture to furnish this baby anyways! ha..ha… but I do LOVE it! It’s everything we wanted.
Front of the house, it has very LITTLE yard…which Terence loves…but what about for re-sale?
The Living Room-hand scraped hardwood floors

Media Room-Terence’s dream room! LOL!

Potty room

Dining Room

Kitchen-they will include all the stainless steel appliances

Staircase-except ours had the iron spindles and dark wood finish

It has 3 brm/2.5 baths & a Study

WHAT WOULD YOU DO????

  1. Pretty! But I’m no help. We’re not at all close to buying, so I’ve not thought through much of anything related to it. 🙁 Good luck!

  2. Ohhhh I would buy the house! It’s soooooooooo pretty girl! Reminds me kinda of our house w/the white rock on it! Love it! BTW you’ll be soooo happy when that tax credit comes in. We put ours to good use this yr.

  3. I heard something about that tax credit – that it eventually has to be paid back or you have to do something with it on your next return? I don’t know the ins and outs, I just know my husband didn’t want to take it. So I would look more into what all that entails before you do anything.

However, this house is GORGEOUS. And you would make it so lovely! Whatever you decide, I hope you have a great home that you can love and be happy in for years to come! (o:

  4. I love the house. The tax credit is GREAT and then rates are still good. But we have talked about buying… I support you in everything you do. Let me know if you need help with anything.

  5. Beautiful house! My advice – there is an owner for every home and eventually you would be able to resell it. HOWEVER, as someone who just sold her house with a tiny yard it was a very negative thing for many buyers.

We literally had people walk in the front door, go directly to the backyard, and walk out the front door without ever looking at the house because the yard was small.

And we aren’t even in the start price range, so most people looking at our house didn’t have little kids who would play in the backyard.

As for the price of the house, I would recommend looking around A LOT at various price ranges, sizes and ages of houses. That way you get a REALLY good idea of what is out there and you can decide if you would be happy in a cheaper house or if you’re willing to tighten the budget for a nicer, more expensive house.

  6. I’m not one for advice here. The only thing I’d say is, can you afford it comfortably? If not, you may feel that you’re enslaved by your mortgage.

    The house is beautiful, though!

  7. buying a home is a very personal decision i think…however with having bought two (and sold one) brand new homes i will tell you personally i will never buy new again…so many reasons in my why column but like i said it is different for everyone…i would say to pray on it and if it’s meant everything will naturally fall into place (i.e. home loan/closing time frame/etc) but i am wishing you luck…it is a very very cute home!!

  8. For me, if I planned on staying there for years and years then I’d say go for it. It just depends on how you see your future panning out.

  9. I love it! I would go for it. Houses are such a good deal now. Plus, you would probably want to be there for awhile. 🙂

  10. wow! it sure it pretty! i have no clue. i mean, it is your dream house but at the same time, i know you don’t want to be house poor either. think about the small yard again. i read one follower’s comment and if she had a hard time…then it could be a problem. but if you feel you would be very happy there for a while…then go for it.

  11. It’s beautiful! But unfortunately I’m no help to you on this. Sorry Becky! I agree with the pros and cons list though! Good luck =]

  12. i think we saw that house!!!

i would get what you love. sure you’ll be a little house poor for a while, but isn’t that what all the newlywed stories are about?? eating pb&j sandwiches on the floor? 🙂

    i LOVE that house.

  13. Play it safe. Not to be negative, but so many things could go wrong in this economy. If you can’t afford this house comfortably then don’t buy it. (Comfortably meaning on HALF your income) I say this only because both my husband and I lost our jobs within weeks of each other. What would happen if one of you lost your job or both lost jobs? Planning for your future is key. I know you want to have kids someday, hopefully soon, but would you be able to afford to stay home or pay for daycare with a house this expensive?? SO many things to think about. Good Luck.

  14. We just built our dream home last year and I can tell you that although you may not want a yard now, when you have little kiddos running around, the idea of a big backyard for them to run and play will be a major factor. That was a biggie for us in finding the right spot to build. I wanted somewhere that I can let Sylvie run around, but not be on top of our neighbors. My suggestion, when you find the house that fits your life and budget, it won’t be this difficult a decision. “THE RIGHT HOUSE” will find you!

  15. How long is your lease? I’d say hold on a bit longer… the market is a buyer’s market – so don’t settle… find EXACTLY what you’re looking for at the price that you are comfortable with.

  16. If you would stay here longer than you obviously would a starter house I would go for it now while you don’t have other obligations (kids). Think about how much more that house will cost in five years when you are ready to move again. You most likely won’t have such a great opportunity that you have now (low interest and buyers credit). Take your time though furnishing the place, don’t go into debt for that. Just my opinion though.

  17. I really like it! But i think you have to do whatever is right for you and is a good comfort zone for you!! I like the “potty room” hehe

I really think its beautiful and you could build on your already fabulous life together there. You will make the right decision. You always do!

I’ll be thinking of you Becky…as always! 🙂

  18. Its a beautiful house. If you guys can handle it and plan to stick around it may be worth it.

Listen to you gut. You’ll know which house is right for you.

  19. Sure is beautiful 🙂 Wish we could afford something like that! It is really nice Beck & if ya’ll can afford it, go for it while its a buyers market. Maybe I’ll just come move-in with you…would Terence just love that! 😛

  20. For what it’s worth, it’s beautiful, but so is peace of mind. I am more of the mind to be conservative and be able to sleep at night. SOOO boring I know…WAAAwaaa

  21. It is a beautiful home. We ended up spending a little more than we wanted to on our first house. Once we had seen it and then looked at others nothing compared and we kept coming back to this one. We bought it and have spent the last 3 years in the perfect starter home for us.

  22. Thus far I’ve been a lurker! Yet somehow I keep coming back to your blog! Anywho, life changes rapidly and it looks like a LOT of house; oh so beautiful house. I think due to the economy I would go with a starter. After that you can build your dream home, and if you decide on children then you’d have options. BUT it IS a personal decision and both options are pretty durn awesome.

  23. Wow, looks really nice! Hard decision…wish I could offer more help, but I’ll say a prayer you make the right decision.

  24. How exciting!! Looking at houses is so much fun! That house is SOOOO pretty!! This economy is so tough right now! Depending on the stability of your jobs, (have you heard about the closer one you interviewed for yet??) and how long you plan on living there it could be worth it, but you’ll have to weigh the decision for yourself! Wish I could be more helpful! Keep us updated about what you decide!

  25. So pretty! I’m not the best at advice since we haven’t purchased our first home yet but I love the style and those floors – OMG! I personally go for older homes with lots of trees and a big yard and y’all may want those things later when you start filling the house up with babies! 🙂 Otherwise it’s gorgeous and I would only do it if you’re for sure you won’t be house poor so that you can TRULY enjoy your home 🙂

  26. I would go for it!! The little yard in the front would be low maintenance and watering in your heat… and those hardwoods!!
